Samsung’s first foldable W23 Flip phone for China is launching this week

Samsung is almost ready to release a new series of foldable phones in China under the W23 brand. Following the teasers that leaked online some weeks ago, Samsung has now fired up an official countdown on its online store in China. The clock is ticking, with only three days remaining before the W23 series’ debut.

Foldable phone customers in China who may want to buy the W23 Galaxy Z Fold 4 or the W23 Galaxy Z Flip 4 can now register online at the company’s store. As of this writing, the W23 series should go on sale (presumably through a pre-order program) in three days and three hours — on October 21.

First-ever Galaxy Z Flip variant for China is on its way — colors may include bronze and blue

Although Samsung has released a couple of W2x foldable phones based on the Galaxy Z Fold lineup in China in the past, this is the first time a Galaxy Z Flip-inspired device is coming to the Far Eastern country. It won’t be called the Galaxy Z Flip 4, and if the history of W2x devices is any indication, it won’t be identical in specs and exterior design to the Galaxy Z Flip 4 released worldwide. For one, both the Flip and Fold-inspired W23 models should have more RAM than the global variants.

A leaked, official W23 teaser we shared moments ago on Twitter also hints at the color options that China might get for the two upcoming foldable phones. As you can see below, the teaser video shows seemingly-random organic shapes warping and flowing into one another. Two colors — bronze and blue — dominate the scene, which might suggest that the W23 foldable devices will be available in these colors.

Pricing details remain unknown, but more information is bound to emerge soon. It will be interesting to see if Samsung will manage to capture the attention of foldable fans in China with its first Flip-based release, especially given its small market share in the country. There’s not a lot of competition in the foldable phone segment, and Samsung might have the upper hand over domestic rivals.
