Samsung’s cheaper LTPS TFT microLED TVs to enter production soon

Samsung is attempting to make microLED TVs more affordable (or less expensive) by adopting LTPS TFT panels instead of using the current PCB method. These first LTPS TFT microLED TVs could hit the market by the end of the year.

New reports say the Korean tech giant is now planning to start manufacturing its new microLED TVs in the third quarter of 2022. The company is expected to produce these TV models in three sizes: 89-inch, 101-inch, and 114-inch.

Despite Samsung’s efforts to reduce the price of microLED by switching to LTPS TFT panels, its upcoming trio of TVs will still exceed the 100 million Won mark (~$77,164) — via The Elec.

Neo QLED to remain far more affordable for a while longer

Samsung’s smaller 89-inch microLED TV based on LTPS TFT technology will reportedly hit the market in South Korea for the equivalent of around $80,000.

The larger models won’t be any cheaper. The 101-inch and 114-inch variants could go on sale for around $90,000 and $100,000, respectively.

Samsung appears to have achieved its goal and decreased microLED prices from the previous generation considerably. For reference, the existing 110-inch variant went on sale for around $130,000.

Even so, microLED TVs still have a long way to go before they can get close to Neo QLED prices.
