Samsung won’t bring these Expert RAW features to Galaxy S22

Samsung confirmed earlier this month that many new Camera and Gallery features that were released alongside the Galaxy S23 series are planned to come to older Galaxy phones. However, some will not.

The Samsung Community moderator in charge of camera updates confirmed over the weekend that a couple of features that are available for the Galaxy S23 aren’t coming to the Galaxy S22, namely: 360 audio recording and 50MP / 100MP high-resolution shooting in Expert RAW.

Regarding the 360 audio recording feature, the community moderator simply stated that Samsung doesn’t plan to bring support for this to the Galaxy S22. (via TheGoAndroid)

As for the Expert RAW high-resolution raw shooting modes, the moderator explained that a 100MP mode is not possible because it would be too taxing on the system. “It’s difficult to provide general usability due to processing time and memory usage.”

As for 50MP raw shooting, this feature won’t be provided by the 108MP camera because, in the case of the Galaxy S23 Ultra, it’s based on 4-pixel binning from the 200MP sensor, and the Galaxy S22 Ultra doesn’t have that high resolution sensor to be capable of shooting four 50MP photos at the same time.

Thankfully, even though the Galaxy S22 series won’t get everything the S23 has, 2022 flagships recently got one of the most interesting image editing updates with the April 2023 release, namely the Image Clipper for the Gallery app.
