Samsung turns smartphones into points of sale for Belgian merchants

Samsung has partnered with Mobco and Viva Wallet in Belgium to offer small and large merchants a secure mobile payment solution. Since July 1, 2022, Belgian regulations say that merchants need to offer at least one electronic payment solution to their customers. And because not every merchant has the necessary infrastructure, Samsung has thought of a convenient solution.

According to Samsung, not all merchants in Belgium have an electronic payment system set up. And although the new regulations have been in effect since July 1, many companies and small businesses, “for example, snack bar owners, dentists, or beauticians,” have not yet complied.

Samsung turns smartphones into mobile payment terminals — again

Samsung, Mobco, and Viva Wallet have come up with a solution to this problem. They’ve partnered to launch the Viva Wallet POS app in Belgium. The app co-developed with Samsung allows merchants to turn their smartphones into mobile points of sale (POS).

As some of you may have realized by now, the idea is not entirely new and was done before in other markets through the Samsung Pay Touch platform. The Viva Wallet POS app works in a similar manner and allows retailers, professionals, market vendors, etc., to offer a secure mobile payment solution to their customers by transforming their phones into card payment terminals.

According to Regional Director at Viva Wallet, “Transactions can be completed quickly, securely, hassle-free, and without traditional hardware, anytime, anywhere.” The app is available for download through the Viva Wallet website. However, it is available only for phones equipped with Tap to Pay functionality, including the Galaxy XCover 6 Pro, the Galaxy S22 series, and the Galaxy Z Fold 4.
