Samsung to build a domestic supply chain for semiconductor expendables

Samsung is reportedly trying to lower its dependency on outside suppliers and has partnered with domestic companies to develop expendable semiconductor components. The company is gearing up for an increase in memory demand this year.

Up to this point, Samsung acquired these expendable components from global semiconductor suppliers. However, more suppliers in South Korea have now emerged with the rising demand for memory chips, and Samsung Semiconductor has apparently decided to team up with these domestic partners and keep the supply chain closer to home.

According to market watchers, the memory semiconductor market could increase by $23.8 billion to $182.7 billion this year. The Korean tech giant is trying to depend less on imported components and match the higher demand with locally-supplied parts.

Samsung Foundry recently began manufacturing 3nm chips. And since the beginning of the year, the company had a considerably higher 4nm-5nm node output than rival semiconductor manufacturer TSMC. However, TSMC is also gearing up for 3nm manufacturing and wants to build four 3nm semiconductor plants.
