Samsung to attend the MWC in Barcelona but only virtually
The Mobile World Congress is set to make a comeback last year after skipping 2020. The exhibition is set to take place between June 28 and July 1 in Barcelona, Spain with as many as 50,000 people attending.
However, many tech companies have decided it is still not safe to send out their employees to do in-person presentations. The latest to pull out is Samsung Electronics – if the company has anything to unveil at the MWC, it will do so virtually.
“The health and safety of our employees, partners and customers is our number one priority, so we have made the decision to withdraw from exhibiting in-person at this year’s MWC. We look forward to participating virtually and continuing to work with GSMA and industry partners to advance new mobile experiences,” wrote Samsung in a statement.
The organizer of the MWC, the GSMA, will require attendees to show a negative test before arriving and they will have to be retested every three days as well. Even so, Samsung and many others think it’s better to play it safe.
Sony, Nokia, Google and Ericsson are among the biggest names that have pulled out of the exhibition. British Telecom, Facebook, Oracle and others will skip the event as well.
