Samsung starts mass production of 512 GB eUFS 3.1

Last year Samsung introduced the eUFS 3.0 storage that could reach 410MBs write speeds, and now it starts manufacturing 512GB eUFS 3.1 that should bring three times faster speed in sequential writes. The mobile memory breaks the 1 GB/s performance threshold and is aimed for upcoming flagships.

The VP of Memory Sales & Marketing at Samsung, Cheol Choi, said the new mobile storage will practically remove the worry about the bottleneck users face with conventional storage cards. The new standard is reflecting Samsung’s “continuing commitment to supporting the rapidly increasing demands from global smartphone makers”.

The Samsung 512GB eUFS 3.1 storage reaches more than twice the speed of a SATA-based PC (which is 540MB/s) and over ten times the speed of a UHS-I microSD card. In practice, this means zero buffer when watching 8K videos, large-size photos on the phone and less time for data transfers.

According to Samsung, 100GB will move in about a minute thanks to the new eUFS 3.1, compared with the four minutes UFS 3.0-based phones require.
