Samsung sold 8.1 million smartphones in India in Q3 2022, a 11% drop from last year

Smartphone sales have dwindled worldwide over the past few months, and Samsung hasn’t been left out of this decline. In India, the South Korean firm sold around 8.1 million smartphones in Q3 2022, which is an 11% drop compared to Q3 2021, when the company sold 9.1 million units.

According to Canalys’ report, Samsung stood second in the Indian smartphone market. It captured an 18% share of the market, a 1 percentage point drop from Q3 2021. Apparently, Galaxy S22 and the Galaxy Z Fold 3 did well in the country. India has seen inflation rise over the past year, and the value of the country’s currency has taken a considerable hit compared to the US dollar, so it has been hard for smartphone OEMs to maintain profitability without increasing the prices.

Xiaomi maintained its lead in the Indian smartphone market, but it saw an even larger fall in its sales compared to Samsung. Xiaomi sold 9.2 million smartphones and captured a 21% share of the market. Its sales declined by 18% compared to its Q3 2021 numbers. Thanks to the festive period, smartphone sales aren’t as bad as they could’ve been.

Vivo stood third with a 16% market share, while OPPO and Realme ranked fourth and fifth, with 16% and 14% market shares, respectively. Vivo’s numbers include sales of its sub-brand iQOO, while OPPO’s numbers include its sub-brand OnePlus‘ sales. Apple is nowhere to be found among the top brands in terms of sales figures.
