Samsung President confirms next Unpacked event’s location

You may have heard the rumors about Samsung changing location for its next Galaxy Unpacked event, but now, it’s all pretty much confirmed. The Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Z Flip 5 won’t be unveiled in the USA or Europe but in South Korea.

The President of Samsung DX (Device eXperience) division’s Global Marketing Center, Lee Young-hee, confirmed the company wants to host its next major Galaxy Unpacked event in Seoul, South Korea.

Lee Young-hee, who Samsung promoted to the President role in December, attended the Samsung Ho-Am Award Ceremony at the Shilla Hotel earlier today. When reporters asked why Samsung will hold the next Unpacked event in Seoul, she answered: “Because Korea is meaningful and important,” thus confirming that the upcoming foldable phones and the Galaxy Watch 6 series will make their first public appearance on stage in South Korea (via Yonhap News).

Galaxy Unpacked could take place at COEX on July 26

Although Lee Young-hee didn’t reveal an exact location and date for the next Galaxy Unpacked, rumors indicate that the event could kick off at COEX in Gangnam-Gu, Seoul.

As to when it might happen, the same rumors suggest that Samsung plans to host the premium product launch earlier than usual and unveil its next flagship mobile products and wearables on July 26.

Aside from two new foldable phones and two new smartwatches, the company could also reveal its first stand-alone mixed-reality (XR) headset.

Samsung confirmed it has been working on a next-gen XR experience when it unveiled the Galaxy S23 series earlier this year. The project is co-developed with Google and Qualcomm, but there are very few official details regarding the headset’s capabilities and design. However, it may have been created to compete with the Meta Quest Pro, and will inevitably enter a rivalry with Apple’s upcoming XR headset.

Other rumors say Samsung may also unveil new foldable devices aside from the expected Galaxy Z Flip 5 and Z Fold 5, but as of now, this doesn’t seem very likely, so take it with a pinch of salt. And whether Samsung will announce the Galaxy Tab S9 series at Unpacked or before that remains unclear.
