Samsung leaks bad news about its first 83-inch QD-OLED TV due in 2025

Samsung makes some of the best premium TVs in the business. That’s why it has consistently been the number one TV vendor globally for two decades now. The company is looking to extend this dominance further with the new TVs it launches early next year.

The company has itself leaked some good news and bad news. The good news is that it will launch its first 83-inch QD-OLED TV in 2025. The bad news is that the 83-inch variant may not be available with the QD-OLED panel in all regions.

2025 Samsung S95F joins the display panel roulette

The S95D is Samsung’s leading QD-OLED TV right now. It’s available in 55, 65, and 77-inch sizes. “Unmatched glare-free QD-OLED brilliance” is how we described this phenomenal TV in the SamMobile S95D TV review, so you can bet your hard-earned dollars that its successor would be similarly impressive.

Some information has leaked via Samsung’s parts database on next year’s model which has been verified by FlatpanelsHD. The parts database has references to ‘QD83S95FAE’ and ‘QE83S95FAT’ which reveals a couple of interesting things.

First of, the S95D’s successor that comes in 2025 will be called Samsung S95F, skipping the letter “E.” Secondly, the largest size on offer will be increased from 77-inch to a whopping 83-inch. This is the good news bit.

The bad news is signified by the FAE and FAT suffixes which reveal that at least the 83-inch model will feature two different display panels – WOLED and QD-OLED, respectively. This is what Samsung did with the S90D this year. It comes with the QD-OLED panel in some regions and WOLED in others.

We highlighted some of the differences between these two panel technologies in the SamMobile S90D TV review. The QD-OLED has better color capability, reproduction and color brightness while the WOLED outshines it in contrast.

Samsung doesn’t provide a breakdown of the regions which get the QD-OLED or WOLED panel. You have to figure it out for yourself once the TVs hit the market, using the tip that we provide in the video review above. As of now, this game of chance seems to be limited to the 83-inch variant of the S95F with the other sizes being QD-OLED only.

The 2025 Samsung TV lineup will most likely be unveiled at the Consumer Electronics Show in January. We’ll continue to keep our ear to the ground for more information about the new TV lineup until then.
