Samsung Galaxy Watch4, Watch4 Classic are official with 5nm chipset and WearOS

Say hello to the Galaxy Watch4 and Galaxy Watch4 Classic smartwatches – Samsung’s first wearables with One UI Watch, based on Wear OS. These devices come with a fashion-forward design and a host of sensors, but most importantly the first 5nm chipsets on Wear OS.

The Samsung Galaxy Watch4 is a modern, sleek option with a rubber band and what the company calls digital bezel, while the Galaxy Watch4 Classic brings the rotating bezel and stainless steel body. Despite the different designs the two share the vast majority of their internals.

The Samsung Galaxy Watch4 arrives in 44mm (1.36” screen) and 40mm (1.19” screen) sizes, while the Watch4 Classic gets 46mm and 42mm options while keeping the same screen diameters. In all cases the pixel density is set at 330PPI.

Samsung says the Watch4 series is geared towards health-conscious people with plenty of new features and an entirely redesigned 3-in-1 sensor. The Samsung bioactive sensor on the back of the Galaxy Watch4 devices measures PPG (a technique detecting volume and blood flow), ECG (heart rhythm), and BIA (method of assessing body composition).

While the bioactive sensor reads all three, it actually gathers info from electrodes for ECG and body composition in the silver rim around the scanner and on the two side-mounted keys. Now the feature is more streamlined without compromising its performance.

Also, thanks to One UI Watch being based on Wear OS, the wearables can track more than 100 different fitness activities, and some of them can be extended to Samsung TV, like yoga or aerobics.

Sleep management is also improved in the Galaxy Watch4 and Galaxy Watch4 Classic – there is snoring detection, continuous blood and oxygen tracking while sleeping. Day-to-day experience now offers Samsung apps, core Google apps and even some third-party platforms to run effortlessly on the watch.

One UI Watch can now sync DND mode, blocked callers and important alarms from your phone. Also, if an app is installed on the handset and it is compatible with the watch, Samsung will automatically install it on the wearable as well.

There is also support for several gestures – nod wrist to confirm call, shake the wrist to dismiss it, or a knock-knock motion for a predefined feature.

All this setup is powered by Exynos W920 – Samsung’s latest 5nm chipset, developed for wearables. It brings a 4G LTE Cat.4 modem and has a dedicated core for Always-On Display. The Watches have 1.5GB RAM and 16GB storage.

Battery capacity is 361mAh for the bigger and 247mAh for the smaller size. It can offer up to 40 hours on a single charge while recharging the battery from 0 to 100 is “under two hours”.
