Samsung Galaxy Tab Active Pro unveiled: a rugged tablet with S Pen and DeX mode

It has been two years since Samsung unveiled a rugged tablet, but this year’s IFA puts an end to this drought – the Samsung Galaxy Tab Active Pro is official and it is a major upgrade over the Tab Active 2.

It has a larger screen – 10” big – which will facilitate DeX mode. You can use it on the tablet itself or hook up an external screen for a dual monitor experience. The screen has document-friendly resolution of 1,920 x 1,200px (16:10).

The tablet is designed to work even with thick gloves as you can use the easily-accessible S Pen (which is stashed in the top left corner). Also, there are hardware keys below the screen for basic navigation. The screen promises 550 nits of brightness for improved visibility outside along with wet touch and glove modes.

The Galaxy Tab Active Pro is designed to survive extreme working conditions. It features IP68-level dust and water resistance and has been tested for falls from 1.2m (according to the MIL-STD-810G standard).

The tablet packs 4GB of RAM and 64GB storage, plus a microSD slot for up to 512GB more. Samsung didn’t reveal the name of the chipset, but based on info from Geekbench should be a Snapdragon 710.

The tablet will launch with Android 9 Pie out of the box. It’s powered by a user-replaceable 7,600mAh battery (no word on fast charging). Additional specs include a 13MP camera on the back and 8MP on the front.

The Tab Active will be available in Germany from October 1 at a price of €600. If you want LTE connectivity, that version is €670. Note that Samsung is targeting business users with this tablet, so it’s not meant for the general public. On the plus side, it commits to 4 years of software updates.
