Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra gets updated CAD renders with dual-camera islands

Samsung’s next flagship launch will introduce the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra and although we’ve previously seen CAD renders of what the design might look like, an updated set of renders from LetsGoDigital in collaboration with Technizo Concept imagines the Galaxy S22 Ultra with a different camera island design. Shortly after the first set of images surfaced, leaker IceUniverse suggested via Twitter that Samsung might opt to arrange the cameras to resemble the vertical camera arrangement of the Samsung Galaxy Note10+.

Instead of the P-shaped camera bump we saw in the renders from OnLeaks, updated renders imagine the camera setup arranged in two smaller islands, just as IceUniverse suggested last month. LetsGoDigital points out that the p-shape was gathered from the outline of dummy devices that case makers use to test new phone covers.

The camera setup is believed to bring updated telephoto camera sensors: The main (108MP) and ultrawide (12MP) cameras are expected to be identical to the S22 Ultra’s but the two telephoto cameras may see updated hardware. Both the 3X telephoto and the 10X periscope telephoto cameras’ sensors may see a bump in resolution from 10MP to 12MP. LetsGoDigital believes that all four cameras will feature OIS on the Galaxy S22 Ultra. Only the ultra-wide camera is missing OIS on the Galaxy S21 Ultra.

Samsung is expected to shift the Galaxy S22 Ultra’s design language to resemble more of what a Galaxy Note 21 Ultra would have ended up looking like. It has boxier lines than the S21 series and its cylindrical shape maximize the amount of space on the phone’s interior, enough for an S Pen silo to fit inside the phone. The renders are imagined in white, burgundy red, and black. LetsGoDigital notes this is the same shade of red as that of the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S9.

It’s generally believed that the Galaxy S Series’ Ultra model will be the spiritual successor for the Galaxy Note Series. Recently, it was reported that the Galaxy S22 Ultra would be delayed in favor of prioritizing the (long delayed) launch of the Galaxy S21 FE series, said to happen sometime in January. The Galaxy S22 series, meanwhile, may launch at the end of February in time for Mobile World Congress.
