Samsung Galaxy Ring could one up Galaxy Watch in health tracking accuracy

The Galaxy Watch and Galaxy Fit lineups of wearables from Samsung are great at fitness tracking. However, Samsung is also developing another lineup of products that are said to offer even better health tracking accuracy. The South Korean firm is working on a smart ring that could be launched as the Galaxy Ring.

Galaxy Ring features a heart rate sensor and ECG

According to reports coming out of South Korea, Samsung has already developed activity and health-tracking technologies for the Galaxy Ring. Reportedly, it features a PPG (Photoplethysmography) sensor and ECG (Electrocardiogram) to track heart activity and health. It is also being reported that the Galaxy Ring’s accuracy is even more accurate and detailed than existing Galaxy Watches, as the sensors in the ring cover the finger from all sides. However, it also means that it could cannibalize the sales of Galaxy Watches, so Samsung could take some time to launch it.

Samsung filed a trademark for the Galaxy Ring name with the KIPRIS (Korea Intellectual Property Information Search) in February 2023, which means that the company could launch the smart wearable device in the future. However, there is no specific timeline for the launch yet. Even Apple is expected to enter the smart ring market. Both Apple and Samsung could differentiate their smart rings from existing smart rings like Oura by integrating even more features and deeper integration with their smartphones.

Since smart rings don’t have screens and are inobtrusive, Apple and Samsung could collaborate with luxury fashion brands to sell costlier versions of those to premium customers. Both brands already have collaborations with luxury fashion brands for their smartphones: Apple with Hermes and Samsung with Thom Browne.
