Samsung Galaxy A71 in for review

Now that we’ve gotten the Galaxy A51 out of the way (review here), it’s time to take a look at the other new member of the hugely popular Galaxy A series – the Galaxy A71.

The Galaxy A71 is the natural progression of one of the most popular phones of 2019 and the second most popular Galaxy A series device to date – the Galaxy A70. It retains what was already great about the Galaxy A70 – the big 6.7-inch Super AMOLED screen, the 4,500mAh battery with 25W fast charging – and adds better cameras, a faster processor and more modern design.

And compared to the Samsung Galaxy A51, the Galaxy A71 offers a bit more display surface area – 6.7-inch over 6.5-inch – a better 8nm Snapdragon 730 chipset over the 10nm Exynos 9611, higher-megapixel main camera, larger and faster-charging battery and the option to have 8GB of RAM.

The new prism crush design is lovely and comes in a set of interesting colors – the Pink looks particularly enticing. It’s the same story on the front – the new in-display camera brings a certain expensive Galaxy Note10+ aura to the Galaxy A71.

The set of cameras is great for this price point. You get a main 64MP f/1.8 snapper that will output 4-in-1 binned 16MP shots, the must-have ultrawide camera is a 12MP f/2.2 unit and finally a 5MP dedicated macro snapper (which was fun on the Galaxy A51). The 5MP depth sensor is there too.

Samsung’s Galaxy A lineup is looking classier and classier. It’s widely available (including through carriers near you), it matches great design with good battery life (and now fast charging), solid cameras and is already on Android 10. And wired headphones faithfuls will love the retention of the 3.5mm jack!

That’s how things look on paper anyway, we’ll see how well it does in the wild. We’ve already started reviewing the Galaxy A71 so stay tuned!
