Samsung Galaxy A22 5G in for review

This is the Samsung Galaxy A22 5G – it costs €250 and for that you get a 90Hz display, 5G connectivity courtesy of a MediaTek Dimensity 700 chipset and a 5,000mAh battery.

You also get a proper 3.5mm headphone jack and headphones in the box to boot. There’s also a 15W charger and cable, but no case.

The Galaxy A22 5G has a dull-looking grey finish, but the matte texture on the rear feels great to the touch and dispenses, at least to some degree, with smudges and fingerprints.

The display is not an OLED, but is sharp at 1080p and has surprisingly adequate brightness, which we didn’t expect at this price point. The smoother-than-average 90Hz refresh rate is a welcomed addition too.

But what will really sell this phone, other than the 5G in the name, is the 5,000mAh battery. Samsung’s A and M series of Galaxy phones all feature solid battery capacities this year and the Galaxy A22 5G is no exception. We’ll see what numbers the battery provides in our full review, but we’re hopeful that it will be a solid performer.

Speaking of performance, the Galaxy A22 5G is adequate. We haven’t noticed any hiccups or disruptions so far in the review process.

Then there are the cameras. There are three on the rear, but there are really only two worth mentioning – the 48MP main camera and the 5MP ultrawide.
