Samsung Display doubles down on OLED research with Sync-OLED platform
Samsung Display has partnered with KISTI (Korea Institute of Science and Technology) Supercomputing Application Center to develop a new platform called Sync-OLED that it can use to test the characteristics of an OLED panel. The move comes shortly after Samsung Display bolstered its OLED and foldable production anticipating high demand in 2022.

Sync-OLED is an elaborate software-based solution for OEMs to study OLED panels in depth. It requires a lot of computing power and Samsung has been working with KISTI since 2020 to make sure that an adequate amount is available.
It is said to have invested “billions” of Won towards the endeavour. Tae-Hyung Kim, Executive Director of Solus Advanced Materials Electronic Materials Business Division had the following to say:
“We will contribute to the development of OLED industries by developing high-efficiency organic materials using the Samsung Display simulation platform”
In the smartphone industry, demand for OLED panels has been shooting up as they make their way to cheaper and cheaper phones. Existing OEMs like Samsung Display, BOE and LG might not be able to keep up with it. Samsung wants to incentivize startups and new firms to use Sync-OLED t0 develop new tech that will ultimately benefit the industry and ease some of the burden on existing OLED providers.
