Samsung details its Smart-ISO Pro and Knox Vault technologies on video

Samsung has introduced a handful of new technologies along with the latest Galaxy S21 flagship series, from a more power-efficient AMOLED display to a new ISOCELL camera sensor and improved security through the new Samsung Knox Vault platform.

Samsung has revealed these new technologies at Unpacked 2021 — though the nitty-gritty of the new AMOLED panel got revealed afterwards — and the company has now published a couple of videos dedicated to explaining two of the latest features that define the Galaxy S21 experience: Smart-ISO Pro and Knox Vault.

What is Smart-ISO Pro?

Smart-ISO Pro debuted with the new ISOCELL HM3 108MP camera sensor found on the back of the Galaxy S21 Ultra. It’s an HDR (high dynamic range) technology that allows the sensor to perform well in a variety of lighting conditions. In short, most image sensors are equipped with Smart-ISO and can decide on a fixed ISO ratio whenever an image is captured.

This method is not ideal because environments with mixed lighting (bright highlights as well as dark shadows) can be problematic and lead to saturation and/or a loss of detail.

Samsung’s new ISOCELL HM3 sensor tackles this challenge with the addition of Smart-ISO Pro: a new HDR technology that allows the camera to combine two different conversion gains — low ISO and high ISO — in a single, vivid HDR image.

What is Samsung Knox Vault?

Smart Knox Vault is another new technology that was introduced with the Galaxy S21 series. Unlike the ISOCELL HM3 sensor which is reserved for the Galaxy S21 Ultra model, Samsung Knox Vault is available across the entire range of new flagships.

With more people now working or studying from home, mobile security has become more important than ever. Samsung has developed Knox Vault as a response. It combines three elements that work together to keep the user’s data secure: the existing Secure Processor, a new Secure Memory chip, and the new Secure Software and Protocol.

The Secure Processor encrypts the user’s data and shields it from physical attacks, while the Secure Memory chip isolates and stores data, all the while blocking unauthorized access from malicious apps. Finally, the new Secure Software and Protocol element acts as a secure communication bridge between the Secure Processor and the new Secure Memory chip.

The two videos below explain both Smart-ISO Pro and Knox Vault in greater detail, so make sure you check them out. These new technologies were introduced with the Galaxy S21 series but you can be certain that they will also be employed by future Galaxy models.
