Samsung could soon bring blood pressure monitoring to Galaxy Watches in Malaysia
Samsung has been equipping its smartwatches with blood pressure monitoring since the Galaxy Watch Active 2. However, the feature was available in only a handful of countries. Now, Samsung could bring the feature to Galaxy Watches in one more country: Malaysia.
The Malaysian Medical Device Authority, which approves and authorizes medical-grade devices in Malaysia, has recently approved (via Lowyat) the Samsung Blood Pressure app in the country. It means that all the Galaxy Watches that have the feature on a hardware level would be able to offer it to users.
The Blood Pressure app from Samsung is intended for over-the-counter use in adults over 22 years of age. It can measure blood pressure (systolic and diastolic), pulse rate, and historical charts for the user via a connected Samsung smartphone. The app doesn’t work on non-Samsung Android smartphones. There is no mention of ECG in the certification document, so it doesn’t look like ECG is coming to Samsung’s smartwatches anytime soon.
Blood pressure monitoring was first launched in South Korea and then expanded to 31 additional countries two years ago. To refresh your memory, the blood pressure monitoring feature is available on the Galaxy Watch Active 2, Galaxy Watch 3, Galaxy Watch 4, Galaxy Watch 4 Classic, Galaxy Watch 5, and Galaxy Watch 5 Pro.
