Samsung could lose some business from Apple next year

Despite being Apple’s most prominent rival, Samsung gets a lot of revenue from the company. From memory chips to OLED panels, Samsung Electronics’ subsidiaries offer a lot of components for Apple’s smartphones, tablets, smartwatches, computers, and other devices. However, the South Korean firm could miss out on some business opportunities from Apple next year.

According to a report from analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple will release a newer version of the iPhone SE in 2024. The more affordable iPhone will get a massive upgrade in terms of the display as it will feature an OLED screen for the first time. However, Samsung Display, which is usually among the primary OLED suppliers for Apple products, might not get a contract for the next iPhone SE. Rumors indicate that Apple might prefer buying panels from Chinese display panel makers such as BOE.

Apple is trying to diversify its supply chain, especially after the chip shortage we saw during the COVID-19 pandemic. The company is trying to steer some of its business away from Samsung Display. Similarly, it will reportedly use its in-house 5G modem instead of the one from Qualcomm for the upcoming iPhone SE. The company reportedly has issues related to mmWave 5G and satellite connectivity, and the iPhone SE will most likely feature only sub-6GHz 5G connectivity.

The upcoming iPhone SE, which will be released sometime in 2024, will reportedly look similar to the standard iPhone 14, featuring a 6.1-inch OLED screen with a notch, a dual-camera setup, and a metal body with rounded corners.
