Samsung confirms Galaxy Watch 4 will get Google Assistant this summer

The Galaxy Watch 4 might have revolutionized Wear OS-powered smartphones but it was missing out on one crucial feature: Google Assistant. Users have been waiting for the digital assistant since the smartwatch was released. It was rumored recently that Assistant was rolling out but Google quickly shot down those rumors.

We now have confirmation straight from Samsung that the Galaxy Watch 4 is indeed getting the Google Assistant. A firm release date has not been provided yet, but the company says that it will arrive this summer. Galaxy Watch 4 owners dearly missed the Assistant. Their smartwatch features Samsung’s Bixby voice assistant but it goes without saying that there’s no comparison to the Assistant.

Google Assistant is finally coming for the Galaxy Watch 4

This announcement was made as part of the Google I/O conference today. Patrick Chomet, EVP and Head of Customer Experience Office at Samsung’s mobile division, confirmed that Galaxy Watch 4 users will be able to download Google Assistant on their smartwatches starting this summer. Assistant will unlock a world of new voice-enabled experiences for users.

It will also improve functionality with third-party apps. For example, users will be able to control Spotify with Google Assistant to change tracks with voice commands. Chomet also confirmed that more Google apps and services will be optimized for Galaxy Watches later this year.

“Summer” might sound like a vague timeframe but it’s not that far off. It may only be a matter of a couple of months before Galaxy Watch 4 users can finally experience Google Assistant on their smartwatches.
