Samsung chairman to visit Vietnam to celebrate completion of $220 million R&D center
In March 2020, Samsung began the construction of a new research and development center in Hanoi, Vietnam, which is expected to cost Samsung $220 million. Reportedly, the construction of this R&D center is now complete, and the Executive Chairman of Samsung Electronics, Lee Jae-yong, will visit Vietnam this week to celebrate the achievement.
According to The Korea Herald, Lee Jae-yong will arrive at the capital of Vietnam on Thursday. After attending a ceremony celebrating the completion of the R&D center, he is scheduled to meet the President of Vietnam, Nguyễn Xuân Phúc, along with key officials of the Vietnamese government. Seemingly, Lee Jae-Yong had to cancel his weekly trial proceedings for the Samsung C&T and Cheil Industries merger to attend this event.
Samsung’s new R&D center in Hanoi, Vietnam, is built on 11,603 square meters of land. The building has a total of nineteen floors, including three basement floors, and a total floor area of 79,522 square meters. Currently, it’s Samsung’s largest R&D facility in Southeast Asia. The company is expected to carry out R&D of smartphones, tablets, hardware, and software at this facility. This R&D center will also employ up to 3,000 people.
Samsung has 17 R&D centers around the world, including Canada, China, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Poland, Russia, South Korea, Turkey, the Philippines, the UK, and the US.
