Samsung brings Matter compatibility to its SmartThings iOS app

During the Galaxy Unpacked 2022 – Part 2 event in the second half of last year, Samsung revealed that it will bring Matter compatibility to its SmartThings platform and most of its new smart TVs and home appliances. Over the past few weeks, the company has released Matter compatibility to its devices and its Android app. Now, the new smart home standard is also compatible with Samsung’s iOS app.

Samsung’s SmartThings app for iOS has received a new update that brings Matter compatibility. The update comes with version 1.6.94 and is available to download from the App Store on iOS devices. The updated app allows users to control not only SmartThings, but also Matter-compatible smart home products such as smart lights, smart sensors, smart buttons and switches, smart refrigerators, smart door locks, smart ACs, smart power sockets, compatible Wi-Fi routers, network bridges, and smart washing machines.

Matter is a new smart home standard jointly developed by Amazon, Apple, Google, LG, Samsung, IKEA, and many other member brands. The group of these member brands that developed the new standard is called CSA (Connectivity Standards Alliance). The new smart home connectivity standard’s first stable version was launched just before the end of the year and is expected to expand over the coming months. More types of devices will be made compatible with Matter in the future (with future versions of Matter).

Samsung is bringing some additional improvements based on Matter. For example, it has partnered with Amazon and Google for even tighter integration with SmartThings. All Matter-compatible devices added through the SmartThings app would automatically show up in Alexa and Google Home apps and vice versa.
