Samsung becomes the number one TV brand globally for 17 years in a row

Samsung was the biggest TV brand globally last year. It has been ranked number one for 17 years in a row. That’s a remarkable achievement, especially considering the extremely competitive TV market. Samsung became the world’s biggest TV brand for the first time in 2006, and it has managed to hold on to its ranking since then.

According to market research firm Omdia, Samsung had a 29.7% share of the global TV market in revenue. In 2022, the company sold 9.65 million QLED TVs (including Neo QLED), leading the premium TV segment. Since the introduction of QLED TVs in 2017, Samsung has sold over 35 million QLED TVs till the end of last year.

Samsung is far ahead of other TV brands in the premium segments

In the premium TV segment (priced above $2,500), Samsung’s TV market share was a whopping 46.2%. This figure has been over 40% consecutively since 2019. Last year, the company maintained its supremacy in the above 75-inch TV segment, beating many competitors. The South Korean firm has a 48.6% market share in the premium segment, which is more than the cumulative sales of TV brands ranked from second to sixth position.

Samsung claims that it has managed to stay at the number one position for so long due to its customer-oriented approach and the introduction of newer technologies. In 2006, it introduced the Bordeaux TV lineup, while its LED TVs were launched in 2009. The company’s first smart TV was introduced in 2011. In 2017, the company introduced QLED TVs, while its 8K QLED TVs were launched in 2018.

The South Korean firm launched Mini-LED-based Neo QLED TVs in 2021, while its first MicroLED TVs were launched in 2022. The company also has several lifestyle premium TVs like The Frame, The Serif, The Sero, and The Terrace. Samsung also introduced The Freestyle and The Premiere projectors over the past three years. It also introduced a Solar Cell Remote that charges through ambient light.
