Redmi K50 Pro, a OnePlus phone and Oppo K10 series also coming with the new Dimensity 8000 series chips

Immediately after MediaTek announced the Dimensity 8000 and 8100, Realme revealed that the GT Neo3 will be one of the first to use the Dimensity 8100 chip. But it’s not the only phone gunning for that title – Lu Weibing from Xiaomi says that the Redmi K50 Pro will also be one of the first.

It sounds like the new K50-series models will arrive later this month (we’re expecting the Pro and a vanilla model at least). The Redmi K50 Gaming is already official and it uses the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset. This is an interesting reversal as the K40 Gaming used a Dimensity 1200, while the K40 Pro and K40 Pro+ used a Snapdragon 888.

OnePlus also has its eye on the Dimensity 8100 chip. The company didn’t offer more details, but this is presumably for a new Nord model (the Nord 2 and Nord CE 2 use a Dimensity 1200 and 900, respectively). We heard rumors that the Nord 2T will use the Dimensity 1300 (which was also announced today), but that may prove to be the 8100 instead (or a different Nord)

There’s more – Oppo wants in as well and revealed that the Oppo K10 series will use the Dimensity 8000. Well, the teaser technically says “8000 series” so it may refer to the 8100. The Dimensity 8000 has a slower GPU than the 8100, but the K-series is more about value for money mid-rangers than it is about gaming phones, so either chip is a reasonable pick.

MediaTek promised that the first smartphones with a Dimensity 8000 series chip will be out in Q1 (and there is only March left of Q1).
