Redmi K40 Gaming Edition may launch in India as the Poco F3 GT

Xiaomi loves rebranding devices between its various sub-brands based on market and… really, who knows what else. The company’s lineup has grown increasingly confusing, naming-wise, in no small part thanks to the incessant rebrandings here and there, and it looks like it’s not going to stop anytime soon.

Today a new rumor claims that the Redmi K40 Gaming Edition smartphone that was unveiled yesterday for the Chinese market will eventually be offered in India as well. But, obviously, not under the same name – that would be too easy.

No, instead, you will be able to purchase the same device in the subcontinent, branded Poco F3 GT. Now that “GT” moniker affixed to the name is interesting, since the Realme GT exists. And also the GT Neo, which has the same chipset as the Redmi K40 Gaming Edition and was supposed to arrive in India as the X7 Max 5G. See, it’s not just Xiaomi playing these games. But it’s funny to see it ‘borrowing’ something from Realme, considering that rumor has it the name Realme itself was created to be similar enough to Redmi without any possible litigation.

Anyway, while we wait for any type of official confirmation on whether the Redmi K40 Gaming Edition will actually be sold in India as the Poco F3 GT, let’s do a refresher on the specs on offer. There’s a 6.67″ 1080×2400 120 Hz OLED screen with 1B colors, the Dimensity 1200 chipset at the helm with 6/8/12 GB of RAM and 128/256 GB of storage, a triple rear camera system (64 MP main, 8 MP ultrawide, 2 MP macro), a 16 MP selfie snapper, stereo speakers tuned by JBL, and a 5,065 mAh battery with 67W fast charging.

Finally, let’s mention that the same tipster who uncovered what will happen in India also says there’s no chance of the Redmi K40 Gaming showing up in Europe, under any name. That’s a shame, for sure.
