Realme X2 in for review
Realme has been grabbing headlines with its X2 Pro flagship which seems to be overshadowing another great new option in its portofio – the Realme X2. We happen to have both at the office and now it gets its turn to stand in the limelight.
Visually, the X2 and its Pro sibling have a lot in common. In fact, you’d have to turn them around to notice the altered camera placement and Realme branding before you could say which is which. While we’re there, it’s important to note that the X2 retains the main 64MP shooter from the Pro as well as the 8MP ultrawide and 2MP depth units. Unfortunately, the 13MP telephoto module is replaced by a 2MP F/2.4 dedicated macro lens.

Moving to the front, we have a 6.4-inch Super AMOLED FHD+ display with an optical UD fingerprint and a small waterdrop notch for the 32MP cam. You lose out on the 90Hz refresh rate from the X2 Pro but you do get a better 32MP selfie shooter. The panel is vibrant and does the job just fine but it’s missing the wow factor of the X2 Pro’s 90Hz.
Under the hood we have the Snapdragon 730G which has proven itself as arguably the best option in the midrange segment, giving the flagship chipsets of yesteryear a run for their money. Everyday tasks and even intensive games fail to slow it down and while the 855+ is obviously more capable, you wouldn’t miss it in most use cases.
The baseline X2 comes with 6GB of RAM and 64GB storage which can be expanded through the microSD slot. On the software side, we have Android 9 Pie with Color OS 6.1 on top, which feels noticeably lighter than previous offerings.
Getting to the battery, the X2 packs a 4,000 mAh cell which supports 30W VOOC fast charging. That’s well below the 50W SuperVOOC found on the X2 Pro but it’s still more than adequate and faster than most of the competition. Given the absence of the taxing 90Hz refresh rate screen, the X2 should deliver ample running times.
Recapping, the X2 gets you a vibrant 6.4-inch Super AMOLED display, more than capable Snapdragon 730G chipset, solid cameras and a large battery all for a starting price of €300. On paper, the Realme X2 packs a lot of value but we still need to put it through the usual tests before we can determine if it lives up to the hype.
