Random: Website points to possible future BioShock news

The next BioShock game is potentially several years away, but some eagle-eyed Reddit users may have found a hint that suggests 2K Games is preparing for an announcement.

A couple months ago, Reddit user UpgradeTech noticed that there were new punchcards in the remastered version of the Minerva’s Den DLC for BioShock 2. They noticed a specific card had what looked like morse code on it. When deciphered it links to theresalwaysalighthouse.com.

If you visit the website, you won’t see much. Currently there’s just a background photo called staytuned.jpg, which looks like an eight-pointed star or light shining from a potential lighthouse. A WHOIS search reveals that the domain was registered by Take-Two Interactive in 2016, but that it was recently updated in February 2020.

It’s worth noting that the site has looked like this for a couple of years now. UpgradeTech notes that it goes back to at least August 2018. However, it’s still a cool find, especially since we know that a new BioShock game is on the way.

In Dec. 2019, 2K announced that a newly-formed internal studio, Cloud Chamber, would be working on a new entry. Unfortunately, it also announced that it would be in development “for the next several years.”

“BioShock is one of the most beloved, critically praised and highest-rated franchises of the last console generation,” 2K president David Ismailer said at the time. “We can’t wait to see where its powerful narrative and iconic, first-person shooter gameplay head in the future with our new studio team at Cloud Chamber leading the charge.”

So it’s unlikely that the new website will have a lot of news any time soon. However, considering how acclaimed the series is and how important it’ll be for 2K’s portfolio, it’s likely it’s just setting up for when it does become a known entity. The website could also possibly set up other BioShock news coming in the future.

This could also be the foundation for a new ARG. 2K has used ARGs multiple times to set up BioShock releases. Most notably, Something in the Sea was part of the campaign to promote Bioshock 2

Either way, it’s still cool. What do you think?
