Rainbow Six Siege hits 60 million players in Ubisoft Q4 earnings

Ubisoft has reported its FY20 earnings, with Q4 net bookings down 42 percent year-over-year at €388 million, versus the €333 million expected. That once again surfaces new milestones for its hit multiplayer shooter, Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege, delivering continued success over nearly half a decade on the market.

The latest financials bring the latest update to Rainbow Six Siege player counts, recently surpassing 60 million registered players, over the 55 million players reported last quarter. While not directly translating to sales, it shows new players onboarding with the title at a similar rate to past quarters. Rainbow Six Siege is one of 11 games games Ubisoft confirmed have sold over 10 million copies this console generation.

That coupled with rising player spending through its ecosystem of digital cosmetics and passes, including a 26 percent rise in player recurring investment (PRI) throughout the title — spearheaded by its first full-fledged Battle Pass, according to Ubisoft chief financial officer, Frédérick Duguet.

Rainbow Six Siege once again saw “record engagement levels,” through January, February, and March this calendar year, amid the Road to Six Invitational limited-time event and launch of Operation Void Edge. While Ubisoft didn’t update on monthly active users, a steady population throughout the fiscal year drew over one billion session days, spanning March 2019 through 2020.

The update comes as Rainbow Six Siege prepares to unveil its next seasonal update titled Operation Steel Wave, expected to feature new playable Operators from Norway and South Africa, alongside a rework of the House map. The season also brings a new revision of the Battle Pass and further cosmetics, as the title cruises through its fifth year on store shelves.
