Rainbow Six Siege gets surprise ‘Golden Gun’ pistol-only event

With an unexpected release to ease the at-home isolation, Ubisoft has dropped the limited-time Golden Gun playlist for Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege. The one-shot, one-kill mode provides players with a Desert Eagle pistol and a single round of ammunition, serving frantic shootouts, diverging from the roots of the tactical shooter.

Unveiled in February at the Six Invitational, Golden Gun is the first “Arcade playlist” for Rainbow Six, pitched as short events shaking up the mechanics of gameplay, similar to the Doktor’s Curse Halloween mode. That starts with the Golden Gun event, available for free to all players on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. The playlist will remain live for four days, concluding on March 23, 2020.

Golden Gun adopts the usual five-versus-five format, split into three-minute Secure Area rounds on the new Oregon rework – with no prep phase. Players can choose from a select range of Operators, equipped with a gold-dipped D-50 pistol and the usual gadgetry. With one shot in the chamber and instant kills, it’s a playful spin available throughout the weekend.

These brief playlists will become more regular throughout Year 5, separated from the game’s existing mid-season events, often paired with full new maps and cosmetic collections. While the Golden Gun event features drastically different gameplay, it retains the same map and styling from the vanilla title.
