Pixel 4 and 4 XL start shipping, arrive in cereal boxes

The first wave of Pixel 4 phones has left the warehouses and some units have even reached their new owners. Shipments in Canada and Australia started yesterday, today the US and Taiwan shipments begin.

One redditor got their phone and it came in a very curious package – it looks like a pixelated cereal box. And get this, there’s actual cereal inside! Here’s a photo from Twitter user @cwlcymro.

While we appreciate the quirky box, the “FREE INSIDE” label is a bit misleading. All phones get free High Quality storage on Google Photos, but Pixels (and select other phones) used to get unlimited Original Quality storage for three years. The key difference is that HQ storage compresses photos over 16MP and videos over 1080p resolution, Original Quality doesn’t (it just keeps the original files).

Anyway, the cereal box packaging seems to be a perk for those who were among the first to pre-order a Pixel 4 or 4 XL. Interestingly, some received a Dominos pizza box instead. A strange move given that Google decided to drop the food-related names for Android versions and stick with just “Android 10”.

PS. Brits get a free HP Chromebook 14 with their Pixels as the note inside the box reminds.
