I’m a massive fan of Sea of Thieves, but it’s not as bombastic as it could be. However, there’s another game that just launched in Game Preview called Atlas. Just like Sea of Thieves, the title is a first-person action game that focuses on sailing, finding treasure, and taking on ferocious beasts.
Explore a persistent, massive open world with thousands of other players simultaneously. Build your ship, assemble your crew, sail the high seas, search for buried treasure, plunder player-built settlements, and conquer the world of Atlas island by island. You can wage war against enemy fleets while you single-handedly command large ships of war. Lastly, you can dive into the watery depths to explore sunken shipwrecks. There’s a lot to do in this sandbox experience.
According to the team, Atlas is nearly 1,200 times bigger than Ark: Survival Evolved and will support up to 40,000 players simultaneously. Those certainly aren’t numbers to scoff at, but we’ll need to wait and see if the studio can deliver on that promise. The title supports cross-play and includes mouse and keyboard support. This means that players on PC can play with players on consoles.
Since Atlas is on Xbox Game Preview, you can access a free trial before you spend the $30. Keep in mind that the price will go up once the title exits the program. Usually, prices at about half off, so this may end up being a AAA game.
