Phil Spencer says Xbox still has to rebuild trust with Japanese creators

While more and more Japanese games have been brought to Xbox platforms over the last couple of years, Phil Spencer, Speaking with JeuxVideo.com, Executive Vice President of Gaming at Microsoft Phil Spencer acknowledges there is still work to do. In a video interview, Spencer comments that he’s happy with how the team has been showing Japanese games during E3 shows but that “We know we will have to work to rebuild trust with Japanese creators.”

“I’m proud of what we’re going to show on the 23rd, I like our roadmap of working directly with Japanese creators to build great Xbox games, you’ll hear more about that in the future,” Spencer says. “We know that it’s a critically important thing to our strategy to make sure that the amazing creators in Japan feel that Xbox is a platform where they can have success.”

With major games from Japanese developers and publishers such as Phantasy Star Online 2, Elden Ring, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice and Devil May Cry 5 being revealed during Xbox E3 shows, Japanese support on Xbox certainly exists. Spencer has previously alluded to wanted a Japanese team as part of Xbox Game Studios and recently reiterated that he feels supported by Microsoft to acquire new studios if they find teams that fit.

We’ll have to wait and see just what is in store on July 23. The Xbox Games Showcase is going to be around an hour long and is entirely focused on games.
