Overwatch-like, ‘Gundam Evolution’ comes flying out of nowhere

Gundam is one of the most iconic and influential anime franchises on the planet. The original Mobile Suit Gundam TV show helped pioneer the giant mecha anime genre in the late 1970’s and early 1980’s with its detailed mecha designs and complex stories of war, politics, and coming of age. Since then, the Gundam franchise has spawned an extraordinary amount of merchandise, TV shows, movies, manga, toys, and of course, videogames.

Today, the owner of the Gundam franchise, Bandai Namco, has announced a new game in the Gundam series, Gundam Evolution. This is a free-to-play, 6v6, competitive, first-person shooter with a gameplay style strikingly akin to Overwatch. It has similar UI, objectives, and the characters have Ultimates at their disposal. However, this game looks like it will be adding its own spin on the formula with over-the-top anime action and mechanics familiar to Gundam fans.

Here are the PC specs for this game from the Gundam Evolution website.

As you can see, the requirements are not necessarily high, but it is still recommended you get your hands on one of the best gaming laptops to experience mobile suit warfare at its finest.

Unfortunately, this game is scheduled to be released only in Japan for Windows PC in 2022 at the time of this writing. There will be a closed beta coming soon for Japanese players, and it will be open up to 5000 players. I really hope this game makes it to the west on Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S because it looks like it could be a great alternative to Overwatch as we wait for Overwatch 2. Dare I say, it might become one of the best games to play on PC, especially with your friends.
