Oppo Watch SE launches in China, featuring eSim support and always-on display

Oppo has announced the arrival of a new budget smartwatch, the Oppo Watch SE – one that features eSim support, up to 10 days of battery life and an always-on display.

The smartwatch will initially arrive in China on 20 October – before presumably arriving in other markets next year – with the price tag set at 999 yuan (around $100 / £100).

It’ll be available in two different colors – purple and gray – and offer a 1.75-inch AMOLED display able to deliver 372 x 430 pixel resolution.

Despite the low asking price, the feature set appears relatively impressive, too. The most eye-catching is cellular support, something that isn’t typically present in cheaper smartwatches, allowing wearers to make phone calls independent of their phones.

However, that’s not the only thing that looks promising from the specs sheet and features list. According to Oppo, the Watch SE will also be capable of three days of battery life – with this extending to 10 days in a battery-saving mode.

We expect this mode will turn off features like the always-on display, as well as possibly affect the smartwatch’s tracking experience. From what we know so far, the Watch SE features more than 100 sports modes, as well as support for sleep monitoring.

How it all performs on the wrist, of course, remains to be seen – and it’s obviously unknown when we’ll be able to test it out against options from the likes of Amazfit, Poco and Redmi. Stay tuned, though, as we’ll be tracking all the release date details over the coming weeks and months.
