Now enjoy end-to-end encryption in group chats and calls in Messenger

Facebook Messenger has changed over the years since its launch. In line with it, in an official blog, Meta has announced a bunch of new features for its Messenger. Notably, Messenger is picking up end-to-end encryption for group chats and calls.

While Messenger users wait for end-to-end encryption as a default, they can feel secure about their group chats and calls. Meta started testing this end-to-end encryption for group chats and calls last year.

Galaxy device owners who use Messenger can now activate E2EE

Finally, the feature is now live for all Messenger users. Do note that it won’t be enabled by default. Users need to enable it from the Messenger settings. This encryption feature is similar to how it works in WhatsApp.

In addition to the E2EE feature for group chats and calls, Meta is also introducing a new screenshot notification feature. It will basically notify you when someone takes a screenshot of a disappearing message. You can already use this feature when Messenger’s Vanish Mode is enabled. It is now further extended to E2EE chats as well.

Along with this, Messenger will also offer its users the ability to use GIFs, stickers, reactions, and long-press to reply to or forward messages in E2EE chats. Moreover, encrypted chats are also gaining support for verified badges.

Other notable inclusions are typing indicators, message forwarding, the ability to save media by long-pressing on it when you receive it, and some quick video editing options.
