Notebooks drive U.S. PC market growth in Q2 2021
It’s been an intense year for PC growth thanks to the worldwide pandemic forcing many people to go remote and utilize the power of computers in lieu of connecting in-person at an office or school. And that uptick in PC shipments and sales has had its beneficiaries, as evidenced by the latest report from Canalys.
Dell, Lenovo, Samsung, HP, and most other major players have all seen big year-over-year growth, with Q2 2021 numbers towering over Q2 2020 figures. The exception here is Apple, which has seen a -2.8% annual growth trend in this same frame, with fewer shipments in Q2 2021 than Q2 2020.
As for the PC market, on the whole, U.S. PC shipments are up by 17% YoY, clocking in at a healthy 36.8 million units (these are approximations). That’s a big dip from 74% YoY growth in Q1 2021, but it’s still a double-digit increase that further expresses the idea the pandemic-fueled surge in PC purchasing isn’t set to slow down anytime soon. Canalys posits as much itself.
“It is clear now that pandemic-related use cases will extend well into the future,” said Canalys’ Brian Lynch. “This points toward a significant refresh opportunity in the future – fantastic news for PC vendors and their channel and ecosystem partners.”
