Next-gen chips from MediaTek, Qualcomm could surpass Apple’s A16 SoC in GPU performance

After a series of disappointments with its Exynos chipsets, Samsung has reportedly decided to use the Snapdragon chipset exclusively in the Galaxy S23. But how good will that Snapdragon chipset be? Will it be as good as Apple’s latest chip used in the iPhone 14 Pro? Well, it looks like it could be even better.

According to tipster Ice Universe (@UniverseIce), both MediaTek Dimensity 9200 and the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 will perform better than the A16 Bionic in terms of graphical performance. The tipster even posted benchmark figures for Dimensity 9200’s Mali-G715 Immortalis MC11 GPU. It features an 11-core GPU and runs GFXBench’s Manhattan Offscreen 1080p test at an average of 328fps.

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 will reportedly perform slightly better than the Dimensity 9200. This result is better than the iPhone 14 Pro Max’s 292fps in the same test. If this result is accurate, Android phones, including the Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23+, and the Galaxy S23 Ultra, will finally surpass competing iPhones in gaming and graphics processing.

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 and the Dimensity 9200 will be unveiled later this month. And the Galaxy S23, which will be announced in early Q1 2023, will bring improvements in processing performance, power efficiency, and wireless connectivity. The upcoming smartphone lineup could offer improved battery life due to higher power efficiency and slightly bigger batteries.
