New Montblanc Summit Lite could be a cheaper luxury Wear OS smartwatch
Montblanc could be about to release a more wallet-friendly smartwatch, as details have leaked about the Montblanc Summit Lite.
The name along with specifications and an image of the watch (pictured above) were discovered in Google’s Device Catalog on its Google Play Console developer platform.
The images show a smartwatch with a black case. There are two physical buttons and a similar-looking crown we’ve seen on previous Montblanc Summit smartwatches.
In terms of what the Summit Lite will be packing, it’s listed as running Google’s Wear OS, which would of course explain its presence in the Play Console. There will be a display with a 390 x 390 resolution, but there are no details on the size.
It’ll pack 1GB of RAM and be powered by a Qualcomm processor. What’s not clear is whether it’ll have Qualcomm’s latest Wear 4100 processor, which we’ve started to see crop up in Wear OS watches like the TicWatch Pro 3 recently.
It will also be packing GPS, a heart rate monitor, microphone and speaker and NFC, which would indicate that Google Pay is likely on board.
The big question is what that the use of the word Lite in the name suggests will be missing from it that you will find on the full-featured Summit watch. But here’s hoping it could strip back the price tag too. We’d love to see it undercut the $995 price the Summit watches currently start at.
Montblanc has launched three Wear OS smartwatches in four years. Back in March of this year, it revealed the Summit 2+, a more connected version of its Summit 2 watch that offered LTE connectivity for the first time.
It came packing a 1.28-inch sized, 390 x 390 resolution AMOLED touchscreen display, ran on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Wear 3100 processor with 1GB RAM and offered the same sensors and features touted for the Summit Lite. So there’s a lot of similarities with the watches based on what has been revealed so far.
Its presence in that Play Console along with recently popping up in the FCC as well seems to indicate this is one we could see in the not too distant future.
