New Honor MagicBook come with 14″ and 15.6″ IPS screens, Ryzen 3000 APUs

Besides the two V30 smartphones, Honor also unveiled two Ryzen-powered ultrabooks – a 14” and a 15.6” model join the MagicBook family.

Both models feature 1080p IPS LCD panels (16:9), they differ in size, of course. The 14” model weighs only 1.38kg and measures 15.9mm thick while the 15.6” one weighs 1.53kg and is 16.9mm thick.

You can pick between two of the latest mobile APUs from AMD – the Zen+ based Ryzen 5 3500 and Ryzen 7 3700. Both feature quad-core CPUs, though the 7 also offers hyperthreading and higher clock speeds. It has a more powerful GPU as well, a Vega 10 instead of a Vega 8.

In terms of memory, you’re looking at 16GB of dual channel DDR4 RAM (a more affordable 8GB option is also available). The PCIe SSD can be had in 256GB and 512GB capacities.

Interestingly, the smaller, lighter laptop has a larger battery – 56Wh. Using the supplied 65W USB-PD charger, you can go from 0% to 46% charge in 30 minutes. A full battery is enough for 9.5 hours of video playback. The 15.6” laptop comes with a 42Wh battery. It may sound strange, but that was the case with Huawei’s MateBook D duo as well.

Charging is done via the sole USB-C port on the Honor MagicBook. There are also two full-sized USB-A ports (one v3.0 and one v2.0), plus an HDMI port. The power button the right of the keyboard doubles as a fingerprint reader.

If you’re looking for the webcam, it’s actually hidden behind a key on the top row of the keyboard. It’s nothing exciting, a 720p cam, but it will do for video calling.
