New Citizen CZ Smart brings NASA-built features and Wear OS 3
Citizen has unveiled its second generation CZ Smart smartwatch at CES 2023, and it’s packed with wellness features designed by NASA.
We’ll be honest by saying we’d forgotten about the original CZ Smart, which launched in 2020 with Wear OS.
It runs Wear OS 3, and is powered by the Snapdragon 4100+. It comes pre-loaded with Strava and YouTube Music apps – but there are far more interesting apps to delve into, that make the CZ Smart 2nd Gen a unique Wear OS device.
The new second-gen smartwatch is built around a “self-care advisor” that uses IBM Watson-powered AI learning to establish patterns of fatigue and alertness.
This is done via the CZ Smart YouQ app, which studies sleep patterns and attempts to offer analysis.
The watch spends 10 days monitoring your sleep to identify your unique Chronotype (circadian rhythm) and then marries this with data from its Alert Scores.
These are driven by a dumbed-down version of NASA’s Psychomotor Vigilance Task Test, which was developed at its Ames Research Center Fatigue Countermeasures Laboratory.
The watch then delivers personalized “Power Fixes” to improve alertness and try and build better long-term habits to reduce fatigue.
It sounds fascinating – and we can’t wait to give it a try.
There are a bunch of colorways and designs, including 41mm Casual and 44mm Sport versions, so everyone is well catered for.
Citizen claims the watch will have 24 hours of battery life, but there’s no word on pricing so far. It’s set to land in March 2023, so watch this space for a full review.
