The day has finally come when you can receive firmware updates from Sony for your PS5 controller without having to use a PS5 console. Thanks to a new “firmware updater for DualSense wireless controller” app, all you need to get your controller up to date is Windows 11 or a 64-bit release of Windows 10.

The app, along with the steps necessary to download and use it, are all available on the official PlayStation website. In addition to the aforementioned operating systems, you’ll have to make sure your machine has 10 MB of storage and a display resolution of at least 1024 × 768, as well as a USB port. As you can see, the app doesn’t have very taxing requirements.

This is good news for anyone who likes to use a PS5 controller with their Windows PC. Perhaps you’re simply a fan of the way the gadget feels, or you want an authentic PlayStation experience while playing PS Now games on PC or PlayStation exclusives that have been released on Steam, such as God of War and Days Gone. Whatever the case may be, you’ll now be better equipped to use Sony’s peripheral wherever you please, whether or not you own a PlayStation 5.

“The power of haptics in the palm of my hand,” Tobey Maguire once mused while sitting with Mickey Mouse to discuss a cameo in Marvel’s Spider-Man on PS5. The point is, the controller is very good and now is even better for Windows users.
