Motorola teases Moto Edge X30’s under display selfie camera with live image

This morning, Motorola’s upcoming Moto Edge X30 – the one that’s to be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset – has appeared in a live image posted by Motorola’s GM, showing that the Moto smartphone will have an under-display selfie camera.

Motorola General Manager Chen Jin posted the following image with the accompanying text:

There is no doubt that the under-screen camera is still a radical choice for the industry, but the crazy increase in user demand and feedback for this feature tells us to do the right thing, not the easy thing. So this time we decided to do whatever it takes, there will be a special version of #motoedgeX30, which will be the first under-screen front camera of the Snapdragon 8 [Gen1] platform, and the first 60 [MP] front camera will never shrink. Double surprise, please wait for December 9th.

Around the same time as the photo was posted, Motorola’s official Weibo handle published a new teaser. This one is also in reference to the under-display camera that’s expected to arrive on the Moto Edge X30.

Can hide the focus, can’t hide the stunning. #MotoEdgeX30 Beauty selfie with front 60MP screen. When you look back at the previous selfies, you will find that beauty has always stayed on your face and never left. There are 2 days before #MotoEdgeX30 new product launch event on December 9.” – Machine translated

Chen Jin mentioned that “a special version of the” phone will have this under-display camera, but we’re not sure which one (nor how many versions there may be). Previous implementations of the under-display camera have proven that the technology needs time to mature, but we wonder if Motorola’s approach with a 60MP selfie camera will yield clearer images.

So far, we know that the Moto Edge X30 will be powered by Qualcomm’s newly announced 4nm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. Based on previous reports, the phone will have a 6.67-inch FullHD+ display with 144Hz refresh rate, HDR10+ support, and DCI-P3. Other reports point to two main 50MP cameras (wide + ultrawide), and a 2MP depth sensor.

Recent teasers show the phone will have a 5,000 mAh battery and support 68W charging. Motorola’s new flagships will be announced on December 9 in China.
