Motorola Edge X30 Pro will unsurprisingly be more expensive than the Edge X30
Motorola is announcing the Edge X30 Pro alongside the Razr 2022 next week, on August 2. As we get closer to that moment, we learn more about the devices – this time it’s all about the X30 Pro.
According to Chen Jin, Lenovo’s GM of its mobile phone business in China, the X30 Pro will be more expensive than the X30, which launched last December. That phone started at CNY 2,999 (approximately $444), but the new X30 Pro won’t be able to match that price.
The culprits are easy to identify: first off, the X30 Pro comes with a 200 MP camera, a first in a smartphone, and that sensor is indeed very big (and thus, probably very expensive). Next up, the X30 Pro is using Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1, a newer and better chipset compared to the 8 Gen 1 in the X30 – but also apparently a more expensive one.
So because of these components, Lenovo-owned Motorola couldn’t keep the price below CNY 3,000. Unfortunately the GM didn’t reveal what exact number we should be expecting, but next Tuesday isn’t that far off anyway, and we’ll know then.
Note that the Edge X30 Pro has long been rumored to be launching outside of China at a later point, rebranded as Edge 30 Ultra. Obviously, that one should also be more expensive than the Edge 30 Pro that was a rebranded Edge X30.
Other rumored specs of the Edge X30 Pro (and thus, the Edge 30 Ultra) include a 6.67-inch 144 Hz curved OLED screen, a 50 MP ultrawide camera, a 12 MP 2x zoom portrait cam, a 60 MP selfie cam, 8/12GB of RAM, 128/256GB of storage, and support for 125W fast wired charging for its 4,500 mAh battery.
