More images of the Xperia 5 II leak; showing Black and Grey colours

Evan Blass (@evleaks) has revealed a couple of new images of the Sony Xperia 5 II, which is expected to be formally introduced on 17 September. He had already revealed an image of the blue variant a few days ago, and he has now released high-resolution renders of the black and grey versions too. This is a similar colour palette that hit the original Xperia 5 last year – although the Xperia 5 also came in a red option too, which does not seem to be present with the Xperia 5 II.

The pictures give a clearer look of the mystery button that appears alongside the volume rocker, fingerprint sensor and dedicated camera shutter key. The Xperia 5 also had four buttons along the side, but in that case the power button was separated from the fingerprint sensor. Sony has integrated the fingerprint sensor and power button in the Xperia 1 II, like some of its earlier Xperia models, so we expect Sony is doing the same with the Xperia 5 II.

The most likely explanation of this new button is that it will work as an app shortcut key, which users can assign to launch specific apps. We don’t know what limitations will apply, but Sony is already introducing this feature with the Xperia PRO, so it’s likely to be making an appearance on the Xperia 5 II too.
