What you need to know

  • Images of three new Halo Infinite locations have surfaced online via game files, potentially among upcoming multiplayer maps.
  • The maps appear to showcase new locations for smaller four-versus-four modes, and the larger 24-player Big Team Battle, set to debut at launch.
  • Halo Infinite is slated to launch sometime later in 2021 on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.

While Microsoft looks set to release Halo Infinite later in 2021, we’re still learning about what to expect from the launch. The title, pushed back from last November, now eyes this fall for its campaign and free-to-play multiplayer modes. Halo Infinite’s multiplayer technical preview recently wrapped, as the first public hands-on opportunity, with additional tests slated for weeks to come.

Halo Infinite developer 343 Industries has announced five of its multiplayer maps planned for launch, with more expected as the release nears. Three maps debuted in the closed test, Bazaar, Live Fire, and Recharge; meanwhile, larger-scale maps, Behemoth and Fragmentation, support its 24-player Big Team Battle modes. We now have more details on the list of Halo Infinite multiplayer maps, with several new alleged images circulating online.

The four screenshots allegedly show new multiplayer maps in the pipeline, each watermarked to denote their work-in-progress state. One untitled map looks to offer another small-scale arena, furnished with near-future interiors and foliage.

We also see a glimpse of what could resemble a night map, with a UNSC frigate and Banished anti-aircraft gun, potentially host to large-scale battles. The final new locale appears to portray a human settlement, likely also designed around high player counts. A new image of Behemoth, a previously announced map from its E3 2021 trailer, also accompanies the leak.

The images also follow a past alleged Halo Infinite leak from July, teasing an arena locale paying homage to Halo: Reach. It takes inspiration from an original 2010 map, Countdown, defined by its Sabre spaceship positioned front and center and vertical battles spanning three floors.

These latest images suggest Halo Infinite will launch with at least nine maps, five confirmed by 343 Industries, plus four untitled locations in the works. However, as work-in-progress maps, still several months from launch, plans could change. We expect to learn more about Halo Infinite and its multiplayer offerings over the coming weeks, including more Halo Infinite beta tests slated for this summer.
