Microsoft reveals new Xbox Aqua Shift controller for Xbox Series X|S

If you’re looking for a new controller to add to your collection, you’re in luck. Microsoft announced on Tuesday via Xbox Wire that a new model of special edition Xbox controllers would be added to the ranks of the best controllers for Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S. It’s titled the Aqua Shift controller and for good reason, as the color is a shifting blue tone.

Lik other controllers designed for the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S, it features a Share button for capturing screenshots and recording gameplay, as well as improved textured grips. If you haven’t been able to nab one of the new Xbox consoles though, don’t worry, as like other Xbox Series X|S controllers it’s compatible with the Xbox One, so you’ll be set for whenever you are able to upgrade.

The Aqua Shift controller is currently slated to arrive in several markets on August 31 and will cost $70. Preorders don’t appear to be live yet but should be going up at Microsoft and across other retailers fairly shortly.

Head of Xbox Phil Spencer indicated earlier this year that he likes things about Sony’s PS5 DualSense controller, which could indicate the kinds of improvements Xbox players can expect in the next major revision of the Xbox controller. The PS5 DualSense uses haptic feedback and adaptive triggers to convey unique sensations, like raindrops rattling on armor or the grind of a chain pulling up a platform.
