Meizu Watch unveiled with 1.78″ AMOLED display, eSIM and fast battery charging

Years after the Meizu Mix the company finally released its first proper smartwatch – simply named the Meizu Watch. Unlike the Mix, which had a classic design with physical hands and no screen, this one is all screen (well, and a button on the side).

The 1.78” AMOLED panel on the front is bigger than you’ll get on most watches. The size as well as the 368 x 448px resolution perfectly matches the dimensions of recent Apple Watches. The screen is sharp (326 ppi) and bright (500 nits) and it is guarded by 2.5D Goilla Glass.

The chassis of the watch is built out of aluminum alloy and features a ceramic base. The whole thing measures 46 x 38.4 x 12.9 mm and weighs 69g. This is with a fluoro-rubber strap and the 420 mAh battery.

Meizu claims that the watch will last up 36 hours on a single charge. The mCharge for Watch system offers quick top-ups for when you are in a hurry – 15 minutes get you to 35%. This should get you through the day, but if you want peace of mind, then charge for 45 minutes to get to 100%. Note that charging is done with a proprietary adapter with pogo pins, wireless charging is not supported (also you’ll need to provide your own a USB-C cable and charger).

The Meizu Watch has an eSIM, so it can handle calls and texts and even streaming music without a smartphone to help it. Meizu Pay is also supported, so you don’t even need to bring cash as you head out for a run.

The watch is powered by the Snapdragon Wear 4100, a 12 nm chip with four Cortex-A53 cores. It runs something Meizu calls Flyme for Watch, which is based on Wear OS. Anyway, the chipset is equipped with 1 GB of RAM and a generous 8 GB of storage. It supports 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.2, NFC and LTE, of course.
