Man of Medan free Friend’s Pass grants shared playthrough

Until Dawn is an incredibly popular PlayStation 4 exclusive that provided gamers with a new take on the horror genre. While the game was well-received, it didn’t set the sales charts ablaze. This was due to the fact that it was exclusive and priced as a AAA experience. Since then, developer Supermassive Games has gone multiplatform, and has partnered with Bandai Namco to deliver a similar game called The Dark Pictures Anthology: Man of Medan.

The Dark Pictures Anthology is a series of standalone, branching cinematic horror games featuring a multiplayer mode. In Man of Medan, five friends set sail on a holiday diving trip that soon changes into something much more sinister. You’re tasked with exploring a ghost ship and uncovering the mystery behind it. Unfortunately, the multiplayer mode only worked if the other player purchased the title. Well, that just changed.

Today, Bandai Namco announced that the Friend’s Pass update allows you to invite a friend who doesn’t own the game to download the trial version and enjoy one full playthrough of the Shared Story mode. Everyone who bought Man of Medan are granted one free friend’s pass for a limited time.

That’s not all though. The Curator’s Cut downloadable content (DLC) is also free for everyone and will automatically unlock after one playthrough. This is a great move because the DLC enhances the game in a number of ways.

In Windows Central’s review, Samuel Tolbert wrote, “There’s a reason I reference Until Dawn so much throughout this review; Man of Medan is essentially a sequel. It may not share a name but the structure is there. While this story is curiously restrained, it’s macabre all the same and well worth a look for fans of narrative horror. I enjoyed my time at sea with this crew, and I’m interested in talking to the Curator again, wherever this anthology is headed.”
