Lenovo unveils Tab P11 and P12 Pro 5G tablets
Lenovo announced two new tablets today that combine skills for entertainment and serious work. These two are the company’s first 5G-enabled tablets and the Tab P12 Pro model also debuts a new feature for pairing the tablet with a Windows computer. Also new today is a TWS headset with ANC and 28 hour battery life.
Lenovo Tab P12 Pro
The Lenovo Tab P12 Pro packs a lot more punch than the Tab P11 Pro as it features a Snapdragon 870 chipset (a massive upgrade over the 730 of its predecessor). It is paired with 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB storage (double the base memory of the P11 Pro), so it can do some serious work.
The tablet itself weighs 565g and has an all-metal body that measures just 5.63 mm thick. You can turn it into a compact laptop with Lenovo’s full size keyboard (19 mm key pitch) with 1.3 mm key travel and an integrated trackpad. There’s also support for a Lenovo Precision Pen 3 that clips on the tablet magnetically (and charges wirelessly). This whole setup tips the scales at under 1 kg.
If you’re in the mood for some entertainment instead, the tablet has a large 12.6” AMOLED display (up from 11.5” on its predecessor). This display supports 120Hz refresh rate and has a resolution of 2,560 x 1,600 px (16:10).
The panel has rich, accurate colors with 107% coverage of NTSC plus support for Dolby Vision and HDR10+. It pushes out 600 nits of brightness at peak and supports DC dimming for flicker-free operation.
The Tab P12 Pro is equipped with four JBL speakers with Dolby Atmos support and Lenovo Premium Audio tuning.
The tablet is powered by a 10,200 mAh battery with 45W fast charging (note that the chargers are sold separately).
The P12 Pro runs Android 11 out of the box and will be the first to showcase Project Unity. This allows you to pair the tablet with a Windows 10 or 11 Lenovo PC and use it as a wireless second display. Unity can even show Windows and Android apps side by side for a platform-agnostic multitasking experience.
The Lenovo Tab P12 Pro is coming in two versions – Wi-Fi only and 5G. The Wi-Fi model will be available from October starting at $610, you will be able to get one from Lenovo.com. The 5G model is coming soon to Europe, the Middle East and Africa at a price of €900 before VAT (which varies by region). Note that the 5G version will not be sold in North America.
Lenovo Tab P11 5G
If that 5G model is looking too expensive, the Lenovo Tab P11 5G will give you the next-gen connectivity at a price of €500 without VAT. Alas, this one isn’t coming to North America either, but will be available in the EMEA region from October.
This is a slightly smaller tablet with an 11” IPS LCD with 2,000 x 1,200 px resolution and 60Hz refresh rate, making it similar to the vanilla P11. Dolby Vision is still supported (though HDR10+ is not) and the peak brightness is 400 nits.
However, this one is powered by a Snapdragon 750G chipset (replacing the 662), which will offer higher performance plus 5G connectivity (on the sub-6 GHz bands). The chipset is paired with 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB storage (for comparison, the vanilla model started at 4/64 GB).
This tablet can still do some work. It supports the keyboard add-on and a stylus (the older Precision Pen 2), plus its USB-C port features DisplayPort functionality so that you can hook up an external monitor.
It can have some fun too with four JBL speakers with Dolby Atmos. The 7,700 mAh battery can last up to 12 hours of video streaming and supports 20W fast charging (the same as on the P11).
This more affordable tablet loses the all-metal build, but it is a tad lighter at 520g. Also, it comes in three colors instead of just one.
Lenovo Smart Wireless Earbuds
Having quad JBL speakers is cool, but in some situations you may want to use headphones. In a noisy office or plane, for example. These have 3 mics each and feature advanced Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) that reduces ambient noise by up to 38 dB. These aren’t afraid of going outside either with IPX4 protection from the rain.
Each bud has 11 mm drivers and weighs just 4.2g. There are tap controls and you can summon the Google Assistant with a voice command. The buds support Lenovo Fast Pair as well as multi-point connectivity.
Lenovo’s new TWS headset promises up to 28 hours of total battery life with the charging case, 7 hours for just the buds alone (5.5 hours with ANC on).
The Lenovo Smart Wireless Earbuds will be available by the end of the month at $100, coming in Black and White to select retailers.
